Desperados' future looking bright for 2007
The AFL's top offense just got scarier with Marcus Nash

Nash comes to Dallas with four seasons of AFL experience after spending the past three seasons (2004-06) with the Gladiators and his rookie season with the Detroit Fury (2003). Before heading indoors, Nash was the 30th overall selection in the 1998 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. As a rookie, he was a member of the Broncos' Super Bowl XXXIII championship team. Nash enjoyed a prolific college career, leaving Tennessee as the school's second ranked receiver with 177 receptions for 2,447 yards and 20 touchdowns.

IRVING, Texas - The Dallas Desperados leaned on a dependable veteran cast in 2006 and came within one game of ArenaBowl XX. Now they've ensured much of that core group will stick together next season and beyond.

The club re-signed seven more players, including starting linemen Rickie Simpkins and Devin Wyman, defensive specialist Jermaine Jones and first-team All-Arena fullback/linebacker Duke

Pettijohn. The Desperados also locked up three key backups - FB/LB Josh White and WR/LBs Andrew Layton and Bobby Perry.

Dallas (14-4) began the off-season June 16 by re-signing kicker Carlos Martinez through 2007. But its biggest moves involve Jones, Pettijohn and Wyman, three veterans who anchored the league's top-ranked defense.

Pettijohn followed his 2005 All-Ironman selection with All-Arena honors this past season. Widely considered one of the league's elite

FB/LBs, Pettijohn finished with 37 carries for 84 yards and two touchdowns on offense, and with 40 tackles and three sacks on defense.

A four-year veteran, Jones set a Desperados record for tackles in a single season (99½) and added eight interceptions.

Wyman signed with Dallas last off-season and became a fixture on the line, using his 6-foot-8 frame to keep the pocket clean on offense and clog the middle on defense.

Deperados have Successful Tryouts

October 16, 2006 - wire reports

IRVING, Texas - Without an annual draft, AFL teams must draw on every resource when it comes to acquiring talent. The Dallas Desperados leave no stone unturned.

In addition to trades and free agency, the

Desperados hold open tryouts each year with hopes of upgrading their roster.

Desperados head coach Will McClay was pleased with this year's tryouts at Texas Stadium, which attracted over 300 skill players - wide receivers, defensive backs, quarterbacks and running backs - this past Saturday.

&All players were evaluated in the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle and standing broad jump. Selected players were invited to participate in an elite workout later in the day, where they were evaluated in drills specific to the game of Arena Football.

Dallas, TX. -- The Dallas Desperados announced Thursday the free agent signing of wide receiver Marcus Nash.
