History Since
opening in July 2001, the American Airlines Center® has set a new
standard for sports and entertainment and has become the premier
venue of the South. It's grand complex with sweeping vistas and
inviting passages comprise five concourses, 142 luxury suites and
room for 20,000 fans or 18,532 Hockey Fans. The American Airlines
Center has not stopped gaining recognition, recently it was rated
one of the best facilities in the country by its fans in the
"Voice of the Fan" JD Powers and Associates Survey. In
2002, it was named The Best Sports Venue by the Dallas Observer
and received the 2001 "Best New Concert Venue" award
from Pollstar Magazine.
Designed
by world-renowned architect David M. Schwarz and Dallas based HKS,
Inc., the American Airlines Center is a combination of traditional
architecture and hi-tech wizardry. Outside, the signature arches
are warm and inviting, Inside, the retractable seating brings the
bowl in closer to the action, allowing fans a more intimate
experience and exceptional sight lines. With 2 years of experience
under it's belt, the American Airlines Center is flying high and
bringing the hottest sports and entertainment to Dallas

240 4x8 and 4x4 maple wood pieces that make up the Dallas
Mavericks Basketball Court.
120 Dasher Board pieces and 96 pieces of plexiglass that surround
the ice in the Dallas Stars Hockey Rink.
The Hockey Ice Rink is covered with 475 pieces of compressed
composite fiberglass called Polar Deck for each non-ice event.
Between 40 and 60 workers can complete a changeover in 2 hours.
We use 2 Forklifts and 40 to 60 people to complete a conversion.
There are four supervisors and 1 manager on staff during the
changeover.
We use a system of color-coded shirts to assign tasks to each
changeover specialist. There are 5 color groups and each group has
4-5 tasks that they work on over the 2-½ hour timeframe.
Our retractable seating is automated which allows major sections
to be moved easily but we do have a variety of sections that are
handset.
